The Biblio File: Library News

Mind over mood  Master of mindfulness
For peace of mind
The IERHA Suicide Prevention Committee’s mission is to support initiatives that are designed to prevent the occurrence of suicide by promoting mental well-being and encouraging help-seeking behaviours through awareness and educational activities/resources.  They have donated to us a wonderful selection of books about mental health for children and adults. Timed to coincide with Mental Health Awareness Week May 1-7, 2017, we have just received this donation and will work as quickly as possible to catalogue them for circulation.  Until they’re ready to borrow, ask us if you’d like to see these items and let us know if you’d like to place a hold.  In the meantime, check out our existing collection of books about mental health in the 616.8 section of the Library.  In addition, our ‘Feelings’ Parent Pack includes books for kids about mental health and depression.  Each bag in our Parent Pack collection contains resources on a single topic, aimed at both parents and kids.  These bags are designed for busy parents on the go, an initiative of Pinawa’s grassroots group.

Ready Set Grow instead of Storytime this week
On Wed. May 3, 1:00-6:00 pm, grassroots, FW Gilbert School and LdB Centennial School are sponsoring a Wellness Fair for 3- and 4-year-olds.  Stations are set up for children and parents to visit and find out about motor skills, wellness, dental health, literacy, nutrition, etc.
Storytime will return the following Wednesday and end on May 17 for the season.

Ironwood interpretive trail site furniture guide
The Ironwood Park
Friends of the Ironwood Trail have completed the revegetation plan, furniture branding, pergola development, installation of interpretive signs and recycle garbage receptacles in The Ironwood Park.  They have prepared four management guides: Site Furniture, Forest Management, Pruning and Park Maintenance.  These guides will be catalogued as part of our ‘Pinawa’ collection.  Please leave them in the Library for others to see.
