They desire a better country
They Desire a Better Country: The Order of Canada in 50 Stories
by Lawrence Scanlan
They write the soundtrack to our lives and spark our imaginations with their words.  They unite our communities through their service and push humanity forward through unwavering innovation.  They are the Companions, Officers and members of the Order of Canada, one of our country’s highest honours, and collectively, they desire a better country.
The Office of the Governor General recently sent us this book which pays tribute to outstanding individuals who have inspired and shaped our society and our future.

Quantum night
Following the release of Quantum Night last year, Robert J. Sawyer was named to the Order of Canada and interviewed on TV last week, pointing out that he is the first person to receive the Order of Canada for being a science fiction writer.  Quantum Night paints a world heading toward a darker place and Sawyer spoke to his fascination with why so many people follow unstable and authoritarian figures.   However, as a member of the Order of Canada, Sawyer recently participated in a ceremony for new Canadians and in contrast with the dark tone of Quantum Night, he found that the uplifting citizenship process suggested a brighter future.
