Did you remember to change your clocks? Moving the clocks forward gives us hope that spring might actually arrive, and gives us more evening light to read by! We have been busy cataloguing new (and new to us) books – stop by and check them out!

“Cherie Dimaline has written a strong story set in a dystopian future on Turtle Island (North America) that masterfully weaves contemporary and historical Indigenous culture and realities into a tale suitable for audiences ranging from teen to adult readers. While the main theme of the story is survival in a dark future, the message is one of hope, love, and humanity in the face of overwhelming challenges. The protagonist, Frenchie, is a young man searching for his family and a sense of home with the survivors he encounters during his arduous journey “North” where Indigenous people are heading as they are being hunted by the government. Without giving away too much of the story, there is heartbreak and joy experienced on his path, and in the end he learns about the meaning of strength, bravery, truth, and the will to live in a good way. Overall, I think this is a great read for anyone interested in science fiction, Canada’s history, and the ongoing struggle for basic rights and equality that Indigenous people in our country face today. It is a story that leaves this reader with a desire to learn more about Canadians shared history and future and to take action to help make the world a better place.”
