The Beaverbrook Vimy Prize is a two-week-long learning experience during which students study the interwoven First and Second World War history of Canada, Great Britain, and France.  Sixteen prizes were awarded: fourteen for Canadian students, one for a British student from Great Britain, and one for a French student from France.  Our own Sophie Long was one of the Canadian students awarded this prestigious prize.

For two weeks this summer, in Belgium and France, Sophie, along with the other prize winners, attended lectures, visited former battlefields, trenches and underground tunnels, as well as museums and cemeteries, and explored monuments such as the Canadian National Vimy Memorial.  Prize recipients also participated in commemorative ceremonies and met a few of the remaining veterans and members of the French Resistance.

Sophie will be talking about her experiences at the library on Monday, November 18, 2019 at 7:00.  There will be complimentary croissants after the presentation.  Everyone welcome!

What’s everyone reading?  What’s everyone buying? (Or might we suggest…borrowing?)  Did you know that on our website you can browse the Globe and Mail and New York Times Bestsellers and book review lists, along with Goodreads and CBC Books?  Just go to the “explore” tab.
