The Biblio File
March 16, 2020

As a cautionary response to the COVID-19 virus, we will be closed as of Wednesday, March 18, 2020, and will post updates on our Facebook page.

The library will be open today, Monday, March 16 (6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.) and Tuesday, March 17 (9:00 a.m to 4:00 p.m and 6:30 p.m to 9:00 p.m).

Unfortunately while the library is closed, there will be no further Biblio Files posted to email until we re-open.

In the Winnipeg Free Press on Saturday, March 14th there was an excellent article written by Melissa Martin about primarily the Millennium Library in Winnipeg, but also libraries in general.   A few quotes from her article are “Everyone who comes here uses the library a little differently, it seems, but they all sink into it like a home.”  “In every corner of every floor, there are people reading, gathering, thinking, meeting.”  “All of this is, when you think about it, a remarkably orderly intersection of space and purpose, of use and potential.  There are few public spaces that serve as many functions as a library, or meet as many key needs for such a wide range of people.” Libraries are unique and awesome, if we do say so ourselves, and we will always do our best to keep our patrons safe and happy.

Right now is an unprecedented time of uncertainty.  Things are changing day by day, hour by hour.  Stay home.  If we end up over-reacting to this and it goes away quickly then we were part of the solution.  If we under-react and don’t take it seriously then that will be made clear very quickly.  You are always better safe than sorry.
