The Biblio File
November 7, 2022

Please join us at the library for Story Time on Thursday, November 10, 2022 at 10:30.  There will be stories, games, a craft and snacks!  Story time will be on Thursday this week as we are closed Friday for Remembrance Day.

We will be closed on Friday, November 11, 2022 for Remembrance Day.

Remembrance Day was first observed in 1919 throughout the British Commonwealth.  It was originally called “Armistice Day” to commemorate the armistice agreement that ended the First World War on Monday, November 11, 1918, at 11 a.m.—on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month.  We hold a two-minute silence at 11am on the 11th day of the 11th month to remember those who have died.  On this day, as we should every day, we honor and remember those who volunteered, sacrificed, served, fought, and died, for our freedom.

At the library we have many books about, and set during wartime, both fiction and non-fiction.   Many of today’s fiction works set during war time may use different names and details but are usually based on actual events and people.  If you want to learn more about those difficult years these books are written on a personal level and will immerse you into the time period in a very readable way.  It’s important as we lose generations to ensure that we don’t forget what it was like, and the sacrifices that were made.
